When completed, the form should be returned to the address above with all the supporting documentation required.

After your application is received, it will be evaluated to determine whether or not you meet the program's basic requirements.

Minimum requirements include the following:

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Completion of one full year of high school algebra with a "C" or better grade, or one post high school algebra course with a "C" or better grade, or the electrical training ALLIANCE's online Tech Math course.
  • Be at least a high school graduate or have a GED equivalent
  • Provide an official transcript for high school and post high school education and training. If applicable, GED records must be submitted
  • Pass a drug test
  • Get to and from work at job sites anywhere within the geographical jurisdiction of this Apprenticeship Program.

If you are in need of the math requirement, consider looking into a class at your local community college or use the link below for an online course. These are both excellent ways to acquire the necessary credits. The Prep Refresher Course link offers online classes intended to help applicants prepare for the required aptitude test, improvement of your reading comprehension and insights into the oral interview process.

After the above requirements have been met, you will be scheduled to take the NJATC aptitude test. This test consists of algebra and reading comprehension questions, which will take approximately two and a half hours to complete. Within two to four weeks after, the JATC should receive the test results and will notify you of them.

If you obtain a qualifying score on the aptitude test, you will be scheduled for a oral interview by the Apprentice Committee. Based on your interview and review of your qualifications, you receive an overall ranking score and your name will be placed accordingly on an eligibility list for two years. When positions become available for the Apprenticeship Program, names will be taken off the respective eligibility list in order of the ranking score.
