During the five year program, the apprentice is evaluated by the journeymen wiremen/foreman they work with on the job to determine how they are progressing in learning the skills needed to become a qualified journeymen wireman. When the apprentice is not receiving or lacking in a necessary skill, these reports will help make the apprentice committee aware that adjustments to the apprentice's training and work environment are needed to be made.
To work in the State of Iowa as an electrician, you are required to obtain an electrical license. It is the responsibility of each person to acquire and maintain this license. To renew this license, you must take 18 hours of continuing education credits before the end of the current 3 year licensing period. Failure to get these credits within this time span will result in having to take the licensing exam over.
You can use the links to the right to find more information on requirements, application forms and checking the continuing education credits earned toward your next license renewal.
We don't stop at just training apprentices, Southeast Iowa JATC also provides other courses to enable our workers to be the most qualified workforce in todays marketplace. We offer state certified continuing education classes necessary to renew your Iowa State Electrical License, along with OSHA 10 Hour Safety and Red Cross First Aid classes. Other courses are available and can be set up if there is enough interest, just contact the office and ask about the type of class you would like to see offered.
